Being a fashionista isn’t easy. You must stay informed of the latest fashion trends while ensuring you don’t spend each month’s salary trying to look trendy. If your budget simply won’t allow you to purchase all pieces from the collections of your favorite designer, consider only purchasing the less expensive items they’ve designed.

Here are three clothing items from a designer’s line to include in your next purchase. These items rarely go out of fashion and can be the perfect pieces to help you save more while looking super trendy.

Scarves

Scarves rarely go out of style. A scarf can act as the perfect addition to a basic t-shirt and jeans combo. It can also play down a dressy outfit on an evening out on the town. Scarves are great designer pieces to purchase because they can serve as an outfit focal point while saving you more money.

Light Jackets

Light jackets aren’t only stylish, they’re also practical. While this can be a slightly more expensive designer purchase, a high quality designer jacket can last for many years and won’t go out of style if chosen correctly. High Heels

Sure, high heels aren’t practical for all occasions but they can be the perfect accessory to an outfit that’s lacking your usual pizzazz. If there’s one designer piece to have in your closet, it’s a great pair of heels.

Catherine Malandrino - Fashion Designer

If you want to become a fashion designer, you would have known it in your childhood itself. Fashion designing is a highly creative profession. A fashion designing career is illustrious.

You just need to have a sense for colors, proportions, designs, and structural thought. All these are very intellectual attributes, and very rare ones.

You would know if you like fashion if:

  • You love clothes. You love colors. You notice things about people clothes that other people would not notice.
  • You have an intricate understanding of colors, textures. You love faces. You can remember faces well. You sketch faces.
  • You love photography. You love people. You love beautiful people. You love their inner and outer beauty. You want to make them more beautiful given a chance.

The life of a fashion designer is not easy. There is a lot of competition out there. You need to be the best at what you are good at. As a fashion designer you are expected to innovate all the time. You are expected to have a sense of fashion that is unique to you. The more unique your fashion is, the better your chances of getting recognized.

Now the trend has moved away and back to commercial fashion. Previously, it was more about self-expression and abstract fashion. On account of losses, many designer outlets want fashion designer to create simple works that make people beautiful. People are still reluctant to buy stuff that is abstract and a piece of art and wear it on them. They want clothes that are conventional, yet futuristic.

Fashion Choices, Seasonal Demands

Fashion is formed of rules endless laws and seasonal requirements. Trying to decipher these can prove to be a challenge, however. Creating a personal style that adheres to the (many) guidelines seems to be impossible.

It is not.

It simply requires an understanding of the basics:

Fabric Selection

There’s one concept that defines seasonal shopping fabrics. All other elements disappear in the wake of materials and their meanings. The functionality of an outfit relies on the cloth it’s formed of; pieces must reflect the weather. Spring and summer should boast lightweight fibers (cotton, linen, silk). Autumn and winter demand heavy items (wool, denim, angora). This is a rule that cannot be ignored.

Accessory Decisions

No outfit is complete without accessories. Style is not meant to be singular; it is instead to be supported. Choosing the correct form of support demands care, however. The winter season favors hard materials (such as silver, diamonds or the elegance of an engagement ring). Colors tend to be neutral and lines are sharp. Summer, however, features whimsical designs, with pieces drenched in polka dots, metallic shimmers, and more. The materials also tend to be unique, with bamboo, hemp and more considered.

Color Possibilities

The seasons are laced with colors. Warm months are meant to embrace primary hues; cold days are meant to offer somber neutrals. This notion is universally accepted. It simply can also be refused. Choosing colors, patterns and more for the seasons is a matter of personal opinion. As long as the tones are woven within appropriate fabrics they can be selected. There’s no need for limitations.

These fashion suggestions will help all individuals master the seasons.

Fashion Breakthrough: Designing for an Established Brand

To design for an established brand a degree is usually a must. Fashion degrees are being obtained not only in the traditional setting but also there are many accredited online degrees available for pursuit.  Most established brands will require a degree, experience or both.

Job opportunities via an established brand may come in the form of an internship. Internships usually pay in experience vs. money but they are well worth the effort. Interns may do a variety of work and it may not always be glamorous work but the experience and life lessons obtained are more valuable than any money that could be gained.

Established brands are usually the trend setters for the fashion world. This is exciting to the designers because they have the opportunity to dictate the next exciting thing fashion world. They have available all the colors that can be thought of and many materials to work with.

Of course valuable experience is also available by designing for an established brand. Stop and think of the brands you are familiar with such as Channel, Ralph Lauren or Guess. These firms have a head designer as well as a huge team of designers which have valuable advice and skills to teach.

Designing for an established brand can be a great education and experience.

The Relaxed Look of the Casual Style

The casual style used to be reserved mainly for weekends, after work hours and on summer vacation for those who work a 40 hour week. Over time, this has changed to a great degree as designers have started to slowly meld more formal fashions with casual styles. This has relaxed the standard black, dark blue, gray and similar tones to include more brighter colors and nontraditional fabrics for the work week. Major designers have had enormous fun incorporating jeans, untucked shirts and a variety of past formal wear taboos into one style.

This pattern has become very popular with the college students across the country and has its greatest example roaring of flip-flops. Younger people can be seen wearing these sandals with dress slacks and button ups, formal dresses and just about any kind of outfit that you can think of. The young men were loose ties and shirttails hanging out as part of the hip style. This transition has been an interesting clash of past generations with new trendier styles. Those wanting to dress this way simply have to take their wardrobe and loosen it up. Another aspect of this trend is to wear T-shirts with suit jackets, tennis shoes and jeans. This grand remix of the fashion wardrobe has created a whole new imaginative playground for fashion designers to play and create in.

The Fashion Look of Blue

Blue is one of the many colors that transitions well throughout all of the fashion seasons of the year. Shoppers find its most common appearance in the wide array of blue jeans that are found in retail stores. It is also a color that blends well with other fabrics of various textures, from cotton to wool and silk. The darker tones of blue are best for the fall and winter in the heavier fabrics of coats, pants and sweaters. In the summer it transitions into light blues and pastel shades that are perfect for sundresses, pullovers and shorts.

Darker blue is a standard coloring for business attire in men’s and women’s styles. Men’s suits and ties reflect this in the more white collar jobs such as law, medicine and business. It goes well with white and other solids but is also versatile in print patterns as well. Darker and light shades of blue are often mixed to give a warm yet striking effect. When it comes to casual wear, blue is the favorite for many shoppers, especially when it comes to button ups, polos and t-shirts.

It is another color that can fade with repeated washings, depending on the manufacturer of the clothing. With proper care, though, it can have a long life of pure bright color. As fashion continues to evolve over time, blue will continue to be a favorite color for those who love it best and make it a part of their wardrobe.

How to Look Your Best During the Winter

As fall and winter approach, the light and airy closing of the summer months is packed away and traded for thicker fabrics decked out in dark shades. Fabrics such as wool and heavy cotton become the predominant choices for people to keep warm in. Wool is excellent for its ability to retain warmth, wick away moisture and last for years. Sweaters, slacks and coats made of wool are perfect choices to stay warm and in style. Cotton shirts are worn mainly as layers under sweaters in button ups, t-shirts and turtle necks. These are great for adding accents to your outfit and to allow you to keep out the cold.

Suede leather is a popular style for its warmth and look, but the owner has to be careful when having it cleaned. Sweaters, especially wool pullovers, are a popular look not only for the quality of the workmanship but also for the long lasting durability of the material. Italian wool is an excellent choice and well worth the investment as it provides the wearer with years of use. The colors for this season are primarily gray, black, navy blue, mauve and similar shades. These blend well together and make for a very versatile wardrobe.

Navy pea coats have become a fashionable style, both for their warmth and ability to be worn with both casual and formal attire. Men and women both can be seen in this fashion. Additionally, women have begun to wear boots more often, decked in leather.

Fashion and Textiles in Toronto

In Toronto, there is a fashion and textile district. Historically, it has been the home to a lot of the textile industry in that city. Now, a lot of the manufacturers have moved out. That’s not really a big problem, though, because there are still plenty of high quality, custom textile producers who are always up on the latest patterns and the latest trends. Any DIY fashionistas who like to design and create their own clothing will want to take full advantage of the incredible textiles that are available in the district.

There’s a lot more to see there, though, and it’s not just clothing and fabrics. The district is also home to many great cafes and restaurants that can be found by using Canada 411. That way, you’ll be sure to get the latest and greatest options, and you’ll have the chance to sample some cuisine that you might not get if you don’t go to that particular district. It’s a great idea to explore a lot of different places in Toronto, so that you really see what the city is all about. There’s so much to do in and around the Toronto area, and if you like fashion, the fashion and textile district is definitely the place to be. The many companies and manufacturers that still call that area home will be happy to see you, and you can get some great finds while you’re there – along with enjoying lunch, taking a stroll, and just generally exploring all that Toronto has to offer to people who come to visit.

Shopping by Season Can Drive Big Savings

Whether discussing mens or ladies styles of clothing, they can almost always be distinguished by season. This type of classification drives supply chain choices from designer and manufacturer all the way to the consumer. When the seasons change, retailers can bring in new merchandise. New merchandise can bring in new customers or regular customers that require fresh wardrobe additions for an upcoming season.

The design process for a line of clothing could start a year or more before the clothing is actually sold by a retailer. The manufacturer needs time to complete the design and costing process and then the actual manufacturing and logistics to get the product to the actual retailers. It is not uncommon for winter coats to be designed in the summertime to allow time for a new product to land in a retailer’s outlet.

Retailers and consumers work together to make room for the new fashions when the seasons change. Retailers often make the bulk of their profits on a seasonal line of clothing at the beginning of that season. This is when supply and demand is at its highest. Price would also be at its highest. When the end of the summer or fall, for instance comes around, the retailer must make room for the new lines. This is when deeply discounted sales can take place to make this room.

If one can afford to buy at the end of the season there can be some great bargains at retailers. There may not be much time to wear these items when we don’t buy by the season but there may be opportunities to wear these fashions during the next year or years to come.
