Kyaw Win discussed the history of the “nationwide” civil war and newly implemented laws that tighten control over civic space, give the authorities broad powers to monitor, censor and criminalise online activity, and impose severe penalties – including the death penalty – for criticism of, or peaceful opposition to, the military junta’s planned elections.
The discussion was facilitated by Dr Ashley Greene, Cohen Institute Specialist. Critical Response Events promote dialogue about emerging or ongoing crises around the world; guest speakers do not represent the Institute or College.
